I-880 Broadway Underpass Guardrail Art,
Nick Yale (guest)
wrote
11 years ago:
The 880 sidewalk underpass for pedestrians walking to lower Broadway
Jack London square is extremely filthy with the stench of urine and
excrement.
The problem became worse several years ago when a misguided art installation caused pigeons to roost and defecate on the sidewalk.
As the area deteriorated fewer people went down the street to visit Jack
London square causing a loss of jobs and business to the area.
The loss of vitality has in turn made the street underpass more
convenient as a open public restroom and continues to erode the attraction of
visitors to the whole downtown area.
To fix the problem requires removal of the art installation and at the
very least putting in a cement wall next to the sidewalk to minimize bird
roosting behavior.
Regular street and sidewalk cleaning if also required with high pressure
water hoses and detergent to clean the filth from the sidewalk.
Sincerely,
Nick Yale

The current strip mall would be demolished. AAA, Safeway and Chase are probably the only things staying. GameStop and Payless would close. CVS and possibly Pet Food Express and Boston Market would close.

Supposed to relocate to CVS, which is still open. Jamba Juice would be relocated next to AAA. I think Starbuck's would also move near AAA or become part of Safeway or the new strip mall. No progress yet.
